Curriculum Assistant (Part-Time)

About The Role

The Curriculum Assistant will wear various hats and play an integral role in readying and preparing iCivics curricular resources for students and teachers. 

This role reports directly to the Director of Curriculum and Content and requires a unique combination of editorial, production design, and administrative skillsets. Ideal candidates will be meticulous, driven, creative, and strong communicators. 

The Curriculum Assistant will be responsible for the following:

  • Editorial Support
    • Resident Researcher. The Curriculum Team members have varied information needs. The Curriculum Assistant will be tasked with researching and preparing information on topics such as civics, history, teaching and learning, educational trends, market landscapes, and standards development.
    • Astute Fact-checker. Along with compiling research, the Curriculum Assistant will be asked to conduct routine fact- and link-checks for curriculum development and maintenance.
    • Peer Reviewer. Assist team members in editorial and copyediting tasks, such as proofreading and finalizing style reviews.
    • Budding Creative. Support and/or take on the writing and delivery of timely, quick-paced projects in the iCivics style, such as Elections Word of the Day, Infographics, and Game Odysseys.
    • Chief Collaborator. Collaborate with a dynamic team of professionals by lending a hand or taking initiative on a variety of curriculum-related tasks.
  • Production Design
    • Pixel Peeper. The Curriculum Assistant may be the first or second set of eyes on new and existing resources and will be tasked with spotting and updating resources to address image and layout errors.
    • Design Eye. The Curriculum Assistant will be asked to contribute to the design of resources in development and should possess the ability to discern good design and consistently apply basic design principles and practices.
  • Administrative Support
    • Stagehand. The Curriculum Assistant will assist with administrative tasks that affect the whole team, such as organizing files and streamlining processes.
    • Project Coordinator. Assist project managers and Curriculum Associates in task management and reporting.
    • Customer-Facing Agent. The Curriculum Assistant may also perform external customer-facing tasks such as communicating with educators and partners.

What You’ll Need:

  • Demonstrated experience in writing, communication, presentation, and/or administrative support
  • Knowledge of educational standards and best practices
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Basic graphic design skills
  • Familiarity with Adobe Indesign, Airtable, content management systems, or project management systems is a plus
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus

Compensation: The position is currently funded for one year with a flexible schedule of 20 hours per week. The expected pay is $20 per hour.

Location: This position is remote and able to work from anywhere in the United States, with occasional travel.

What You’ll Do

iCivics has grown tremendously in recent years. At the onset of a new strategic plan, we are seeking a Senior Director of Partnerships to build upon a strong financial base, expand our networks, and secure the support needed to continue to innovate and evolve our work. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Senior Director of Partnerships will:

  • Set and implement strategies for engaging individual and institutional supporters with the capacity to contribute major (5-7+ figure) gifts to fuel iCivics’ growth.
  • Build and expand ongoing partnership and engagement with key allies and stakeholders across the field, inclusive of educational, cultural, historical, and civic organizations and funders.
  • Lead efforts to identify and pursue a robust pipeline of prospects with an affiliation for iCivics’ mission. Leverage iCivics’ deep networks and design individualized plans for outreach and relationship building.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for iCivics, representing the organization at conferences, panels, speaking engagements, meetings, social gatherings, and other events; deepen iCivics’ networks within the broader education and democracy space.
  • In partnership with the Chief Development officer, strategically leverage CEO, CDO, and board members’ time and networks in donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Create meaningful opportunities for supporters to engage with iCivics’ mission, programs, and networks e.g., Civic Learning Week, CivxNow coalition.
  • Ensure exceptional follow-through and a high level of responsiveness in relationship management; work with Development Associate to track all touchpoints, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the program team in stewarding relationships and ensuring supporters remain well informed about the impact of their gifts.
  • Contribute as a senior leader to the strategic direction of the organization and model iCivics values and culture in all aspects of your work.

Salary, Benefits, and Work Arrangement

The starting salary for this position is $155,000. iCivics provides a comprehensive benefits package, including generous health insurance for individuals and competitive rates for families/dependents, generous time off, family leave, and a collegial environment that supports professional development and wellness. This position is fully remote and must be based in the greater Washington, D.C. area with the ability to attend meetings, convenings, conferences, and other events as needed.

Senior Director of Marketing

The Senior Director of Marketing—focused mainly on K–12 marketing—will play a pivotal role in developing and executing the marketing strategies that drive our organization’s growth and brand recognition.

Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer (CMCO), this role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in marketing, excellent strategic thinking, project management, analytical and technical skills, and the ability to manage a team effectively.

The Senior Director of Marketing will be responsible for the following:

  • Strategic Planning
    • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing plans that align with iCivics’ goals and objectives in the K–12 education space
    • Collaborate with the CMCO to define marketing strategies that enhance brand positioning and market penetration.
    • Monitor and analyze user data to identify opportunities and challenges
    • Drive marketing results to KPIs
  • K–12 Market Focus
    • Oversee product/content marketing, customer acquisition, and retention, as well as educator engagement strategies to meet organizational goals
    • Ensure that marketing messages reflect customer needs and engage our audiences
    • Support the launch of a new earned revenue business, expanding our customer focus to school administrator
  • Driving Lead Generation Programs to Meet Targets
    • Support overall brand visibility efforts
      • In coordination with the CMCO, drive maximum visibility for the brand
      • Ensure the website meets our traffic metrics and gains positive feedback
      • Drive the net promoter score for the brand
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead and mentor a team of three marketing staff members to ensure the successful execution of marketing strategies.
    • Manage several marketing vendors who assist on email marketing, SEO, social media.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
    • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for team members.
  • Campaign Management & Event Support
    • Oversee the creation and execution of multi-channel marketing campaigns, including digital, print, social media, and events.
    • Ensure marketing campaigns are delivered on time, within budget, and meet or exceed performance goals.
    • Analyze campaign performance and provide actionable insights to optimize future campaigns.
    • Oversee marketing support to teams at organizational events and conferences, ensuring teams have all the materials and marketing resources necessary to support their goals
  • Brand Management
    • Support the transition to our exciting new brand both internally and externally.
    • Ensure consistent brand messaging across all channels and organizational materials.
    • Ensure alignment with brand guidelines and uniformity in brand presentation.
    • Navigate a complex political landscape through balanced language aligned to our brand promise
  • Cross-team Collaboration
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including curriculum, professional learning, policy, and education, to align marketing strategies with their team objectives.
    • Build strong relationships with external partners, vendors, contractors, and agencies to enhance marketing efforts.

Who You Are

This role is ideal for someone with the following skills and mindsets:

  • An experienced marketing professional: An experienced marketing leader with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful marketing strategies. You are able to use quantitative data to drive results in terms of customer acquisition and retention and to meet our visibility, traffic, and usage KPIs. You have seven or more years of K–12 marketing experience, with at least three years experience in leadership and a degree in Marketing, Business, Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills: You can competently manage a lively pipeline of activities and projects, communicate status, and coordinate multiple stakeholders. You successfully use data to drive results.
  • A customer-centric focus: You understand the dynamics of the school market, the needs of educators, and how to communicate effectively with them.
  • Strategic thinking driving execution: You are able to take a vision and execute it with strong attention to detail while having the judgment to make adjustments and innovate when needed.

Salary: The starting salary for this position is $140,000.
